JOB SUMMARY: Operation Frontline Los Angeles is a program of Center for Community and Family Services and Jubilee Consortium in partnership with Share Our Strength (SOS), a national anti-hunger organization. The program teaches healthy cooking, nutrition, and food budgeting to low-income people who are most at-risk of hunger and malnutrition. The CCFS Operation Frontline AmeriCorps member will work with the Operation Frontline Program Coordinator to successfully implement these services. Responsibilities will include coordinating courses, assisting with the recruitment and support of program volunteers, program promotion and marketing, as well as other administrative and program duties.
Essential responsibilities/duties include but are not limited to:
• Facilitate Operation Frontline classes and coordinates class logistics
• Assist with marketing, outreach, and program promotion • Assist with volunteer management
• Assist with the implementation of other special projects and perform administrative work which ensures the continuation and expansion of the program
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor's degree in a related public health, nutrition, or culinary arts field OR four years of relevant experience in the health, nutrition, or culinary arts field, including at least one year working with low-income populations OR any combination of education, experience and measurable performance which demonstrates the capability to perform the duties of this position; • Experience coordinating, working with, or managing volunteers; • Bilingual Spanish is a benefit • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends (approximately 6 times per month) for the purposes of conducting classes and to attend community meetings. • Must possess a valid California driver’s license, use of an automobile, and provide evidence of continuous automobile liability insurance. Must meet State health requirements, including passing a physical examination, and must provide verification of TB clearance. Mandatory CPR and Basic First Aid certificate which employee is responsible to maintain for the duration of their contract with AmeriCorps.

SOME MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: • Ability to safely supervise and handle active 0-3 year olds which involves but is not limited to: 1) circulating in the center and on the play-yard,) ability to run across room or play-yard to prevent an accident or quickly reach one which has happened, 3) administering emergency first aid if necessary and 4) ability to lift 40 lbs. • Ability to maintain a pleasant, responsive, constructive attitude toward the children, parents and staff; understands the goals and needs of the children in the program and establishes good working relationships with families of participants. • Experience working with children with disabilities desirable. • Support the Early Head Start philosophy, goals and objectives. • Knowledge of RIE (Resources for Infant Educarers) and Program for Infant and Toddler Caregivers (PITC) practices desirable.
Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. An example of this would be a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education or related field of study. Teachers are required to have a Child Development Permit at the Teacher level or above. Minimum of 3 units in Infant/Toddler Development is required. Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Administrative Floater Clerk provides temporary clerical support at the site level and to the Specialists. Assignments may entail clerical support for Head Start Services including but not limited to: health, education, parent involvement, mental health, family services, maintenance, transportation, training, nutrition, and special needs as needed. The Administrative Floater Clerk will fill in for vacancies and during all other employee leaves at the clerical level. The Administrative Floater Clerk is responsible for word processing; inputs and retrieves computer data; assists with special projects and other office work and duties as assigned by the Program Manager. This Nutrition Aide Substitute has the responsibility of day-to-day implementation of the Nutrition Service Plan. This includes food preparation, service and distribution of food within the parameters and standards established by the agency administration, State and local food handling regulations. The Nutrition Aide is under the direct supervision of the Nutrition Specialist and Nutrition Coordinator. The Nutrition Aide’s primary responsibilities are cold food preparation, receiving and delivery of food and supplies, washing dishes, pots, pans, and utensils, picking up and delivering school meals, utensils and donated food to all Head Start school sites. He/she also assists in taking inventory of food, non-food items, and kitchen supplies and equipment on a weekly basis; participates in all health and sanitation inspections of kitchen facilities; assists the Cook in food preparation and kitchen clean up; and completes other duties as assigned by the Nutrition Coordinator.
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. An example of this would be one year of experience in the food service industry performing food preparation and dish washing. Work experience with Inventory Control preferred.
