Who We Are
Our Head Start and Early Head Start programs provide comprehensive services to expectant mothers, children ages zero to five years old, and their families. These services are at no cost to participating families. We also offer an Even Start Family Literacy Program to parents of children enrolled in Head Start or Early Head Start.
What is Head Start?
Since 1965, Head Start has been providing comprehensive child development services for low income children and their families. Head Start, early intervention pre-school program, has helped over 20 million children build the confidence and skills they need to succeed in school and to become the productive citizens of the future.
In the Pasadena-Glendale area, Head Start is operated by Center for Community & Family Services, Inc. (CCFS). CCFS, formerly know as Community Housing Services (CHS), began in 1969 as a small organization devoted to providing housing for families displaced by the building of the 210 Freeway extension. Today, CCFS is a large, multi-purpose agency offering Head Start, Early Head Start, child care, job training, food bank and housing services in the San Gabriel Valley, Glendale, South Central Los Angeles, and Lassen and Madera Counties. CCFS is also the Community Action Agency for the Pasadena/Foothill Region.
Center for Community and Family Services, Inc. (CCFS) is the Head Start grantee for the West San Gabriel Valley in Los Angeles County whose mission is to assist low-income families break the cycle of poverty through achieving more economic self-sufficiency. Our Head Start program currently serves 1,223 children and families in Pasadena, Altadena, and Glendale . We have 206 employees at 13 sites (40 classrooms) throughout our service area. CCFS Early Head Start serves 60 families with children ages 0-3 including services to a rotating group of 8 pregnant women throughout the program year. We have been a leader in providing quality services for children and families in our communities for 35 years.

Head Start Center Locations
Conveniently located in the cities of Pasadena, Altadena and Glendale, our Head Start programs are operated in well-equipped centers. We maintain a small class size of no more than 20 children, taught by highly qualified and well-trained teachers. Most children are enrolled in the part-day morning or afternoon program. Full day/full year classes are available for parents working or attending school full time. See the list below for details.
